Most of us are used to art galleries taking a commission on the sale of our art - usually between 40-50% of the sale. But with the rise of the internet, there are now online galleries with lower commission rates, or with monthly fees instead. So do artists still prefer the commission-based payment plan?
As an artist myself, I tend to look at the prices on artwork from a sort of "insider" perspective. I think about the cost of materials associated with making the art, the time it may have took, where the artist is at in their career, and how much demand there is for that specific style or subject matter. . .
