Donna Blichasz graduated from Moore College of Art and Design in 2008 with a bachelor of fine arts. She then attended graduate school at Arcadia University, where she received her master of fine arts with a focus on art education.
Now living and working in Philadelphia, Donna creates delightful watercolor illustrations of everyday people, animals, and surreal cityscapes. . . and, occasionally, superheroes! Here are a few of my favorites:
Ah, the charismatic Deadpool, a beloved (by some) character in the Marvel comics. Fast-talking and always up to silly antics, Donna’s illustration superbly depicts his fun-loving, sardonic character.
The background is full of eruptions and explosions, just like the hand-drawn plan Deadpool holds. Clearly, his plan worked perfectly. . . Sure, he’s not flying away on a unicorn while dreaming of tacos, but that’s the life of a superhero!
Next up is Spider-man. What I love about this watercolor illustration is the composition— it’s like we’re looking through the very window where Spider-man is perched as he shoots his webs to catch victims falling through the sky
The colors in the background are vibrant, telling a tale of a bustling city. The texture Donna was able to get with Spider-man’s quilt-like suit and his thick-stranded web really bring the painting to life, too!
Last but not least, here’s the optimistic face of America: Captain America. Lots of patriotic red, white and blue make up this watercolor, in which “Cap” stands tall and strong in front of one of the nation’s skyscraper-filled cities.
Holding his shield and multi-functional tools, Captain America is all geared up and ready to defend freedom and honor. The only things that give his former life away are his wide eyes and unsure smirk, telling a tale of a scrawny misfit turned superhero.
Love Donna’s work? We sure do! View her entire portfolio online, or even buy a print or two—all of her artwork is available for sale at her Etsy shop.
