VIDEO: Making a Monochromatic Painting

In today’s video clip, Dale Laitinen takes a step back from his usually vibrant watercolors, and demonstrates how to create a value painting with just shades of gray.

Whether you use this technique as a study for a full-color painting (similar to making a preliminary sketch in charcoal, for example) or simply like the monochromatic look, value painting is all about creating clearly-defined levels of darkness and lightness.
