This Week: 12/30 through 1/5

Published Dec. 30th 2007

Monday in General Art Advice - With 2007 drawing to an end, I’ve decided to take a moment to write down some of the things I’ve learned over the past year. (Actually, I’m a bit nervous about this because I don’t know if I’ll end up with a neatly ordered list, an incoherent ramble, or—worst case scenario—a blank page.) Whatever the outcome, I’ll publish it on Monday.

Tuesday in Art Websites - Do you have a few art blogs you keep going back to time after time? On Tuesday I’m going to post my personal list of 8 must-read art blogs for 2008 and I’d like to encourage you to do the same.

This isn’t one of those “tagging” memes that pop up occasionally around the internet, so please don’t feel like your blog has to be on someone else’s list for you to post your own list. I just think it’d be a fun way for all of us in the art blogosphere (artosphere?) to kick off the new year.

Wednesday in Featured Artists - This week’s artist is a daily painter, illustrator, and designer all rolled into one—and she creates some truly exquisite paintings that I know you won’t want to miss. Get the full scoop this Wednesday.

Thursday in Photoshop Tricks - About a year ago I wrote an article that explained how to photograph your paintings and other 2D artwork without distorting or skewing the edges—but the truth is, even if you know how, it’s not always an easy thing to do. The solution? Come back on Thursday and learn a few Photoshop tricks to fix those imperfect photos.

Friday in Art Opinion - OK, just for fun: how many new year’s resolutions have you made for 2008? Go ahead, count ‘em up and let the world know.

Have a happy new year!

I’ve found many good art blogs and some great art blogs—but for this particular list, I wanted to pick the cream of the crop: the very best art blogs online. My criteria? I chose blogs that are focused on art, illustration, or desig. . . read more
I'm sure I don't have to mention it, but there's an extreme range of art prices online—from low-priced $50 paintings to high-priced artwork of $10,000 or more. Sometimes I wonder if those artists truly realize how many paintings they need to sell each year to make a living from their art. For . . . read more
I came across this topic a while back on William Lehman's blog, Artist Hideout. (William now writes for deCloned.com) He wrote that he was going to attempt a trial run and put a painting of his own on eBay, and I admit I'm curious as to his results. When I looked into eBay a few years ago as a. . . read more
Today's featured artist is Jan Blencowe, a plein air painter from Connecticut who also happens to be a long-time art blogger with not one, but TWO art blogs, Art & Life and The Painting a Day Project.
