Former high school art teacher turned full-time artist, Anna Blair, of Fort Worth, Texas, is no stranger to the kiln. Her fused glass jewelry is made using hand-cut glass, layered and bonded together, with stunning images depicted in enamel.
After cold-working the piece with a grinder, fire polishing, and applying jewelry findings, the end result is unique, wearable piece of art that is sure to impress!
In The Trio Anna transforms a block of triangular-shaped colors, from searing blues, pure whites and complimentary yellows, into a beautiful landscape in which horses gallop freely along (perhaps) a dirt-packed path.
Anna breaks up these triangular shapes with a mountainous scene dotted with trees that trail off in the background, giving the scene a three-dimensional effect.
This next necklace is equally stunning, with a deep black layer acting as a backdrop and specks of celestial green, violet and orange hues igniting from within the glass.
Do you see any images when looking at the purple and orange side of the glass? I can make out both a butterfly spreading its wings into flight and a woman in a dress facing left and clasping her hands up near her shoulders.
And let’s not overlook how the pearlescent beads of the necklace complement the glass perfectly, creating a unified piece of jewelry that is both feminine and bold at the same time. I especially love how Anna used different sizes of beads, and varied their shape, transparency, and color for added intricacy.
Lastly, Mermaid is a pendant that immediately caught my attention. Simplified to just black and white, Anna was able to visualize an undersea coral forest that jets out above the mermaid, forming a layer of protection against predators.
Between hedges of coral and seaweed a mermaid swims, undulating out into deeper waters amidst a darting school of tiny fish. It’s a dreamt-up scene, but Anna tell its story so believably that you can’t help but be drawn into this world of fantasy.
