The MAPS Mobile: Media on the Move

Film director Robert Wise stated many years ago that his three P’s were “passion, patience, perseverance. You have to do this if you’ve got to be a filmmaker.”

Well, passion, patience and perseverance is what the MAPS Media Institute is all about—and now, students from this amazing program have initiated a Kickstarter campaign titled The MAPS Mobile: Media on the Move project, to share its vision beyond one town’s borders.

The MAPS (Media Arts in Public Schools) Media Institute is a free after-school arts program located in Hamilton, Montana. They are a non-profit organization educating youth since 2004 in courses like filmmaking, technology, music, design, and entrepreneurship. Though it’s currently a regional program, it has made an impact nationally by being named one of the top 50 after-school programs in the United States by the President’s Council on the Arts and Humanities.

The MAPS Mobile: Media on the Move project goal is to take this nationally recognized program on the road so more students can be impacted in positive ways. And, they’ve already made one huge leap towards their goal: they’ve acquired a van. Now they just need to outfit it “with the professional equipment required to share the MAPS experience.”

Donations made to this campaign will fund equipment and software to help the van serve as a portable recording studio (microphones and audio hardware), a full film production studio (cameras and lights), a graphic design studio (tablets and DSLR cameras) and a video game development studio (computer workstations and software).

To achieve all this, the MAPS Mobile project has a monetary goal of $25,000. Please consider supporting this inspiring project—just make sure to visit their Kickstarter page before Friday, May 15!
