For many of us, art is easily accessible: it’s on our walls, we go see it in local galleries and museums—or we simply create it ourselves. For others, however, art is only a distant idea seen briefly on television or read about in books. And the chance to create art? It just doesn’t happen.
Art educator Jennifer Christy dreams of changing that for her community in southeast Texas. Her goal is to bring art education to both children and adults in her local area, then eventually beyond. And right now, her dream is tucked into a shiny vintage airstream trailer.
The trailer she intends to purchase is already outfitted as a mobile art classroom, and will allow Christy to share art education with others. In order to fund this dream she launched an Indiegogo campaign titled, Go Art Go. The Go Art Go trailer will house a mobile art space and supply shop that can travel to schools, community events and even private functions spreading the joy of art creation.
Christy describes Go Art Go as being “more than…making crafty items or pretty paintings.”
She goes on to say this:
“Here, art is about discovering a personal vision through the creative journey. Learning about and making art is process-focused, rather than seen as a deliverable or end product. It is also about building a stronger community, collaborating creatively and encouraging people of all ages and levels of expertise to inspire one another.”
Art education is not a new gig for Christy. She has been running a mobile art school from the trunk of her car for over a year and is so popular that her classes fill up quickly.
Imagine how thrilled she felt when she found this vintage airstream trailer already retrofitted as a fully-functional art space. If she achieves her project goal, Christy will be able to expand her classes into a more permanent, yet still mobile, art classroom. All of the funds raised will be used to move this trailer to Texas, support a start-up teaching staff, and purchase initial art supplies.
The Go Art Go project has a monetary goal of $3,500, and so far has only raised $750 of that. It has less than 2 weeks remaining and needs our help!
