EmptyEasel gets quite a few visitors via Google, and I’ll admit I’m always interested in the keywords and search terms that have led them here.
Most are expected—phrases like how to sell art, or selling art online; as well as mixing colors, oil painting tips. . . things like that. But once in a while I find search terms that are a bit strange, and I thought I’d take a moment and share some of them with you.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad people are finding EmptyEasel. I’m just worried that EE doesn’t have the right answer to their questions. For instance, one particular phrase that led a visitor to EE was “reasons to date an artist.”
I don’t know what to say to that, but I guess it’s good to know that you can always go to Google with the truly important questions in life. : )
Another unique search phrase caught my eye because it appeared to answer itself. Someone searched for “How to improve your drawing draw draw draw.”
Ain’t that the truth.
I hope they at least found the drawing tips while they were here.
And then there was this search for “online doodling tutorials.” It was such a clear request that I began to wonder. . . are there any good websites that teach beginning doodlers how to doodle?
After looking around I quickly realized there weren’t.
So for any beginning doodlers out there, I’d say pick one corner and then just let your mind and pencil wander. Also, don’t forget to make good use of margins and the spaces between paragraphs. : )
But in all seriousness, some of these search terms do give me ideas for future articles, or at least something to think about. Especially phrases like “I can’t draw but I want to paint” and “don’t think your art is good enough.”
Those remind me why I started EE and why I continue to work at it—because there will always be artists who want to learn, and who need answers and encouragement.
So however you found EE, I’m glad you’re here.
And for you more experienced artists and art bloggers, feel free to join in by submitting your own articles, tips and tutorials. People like Jennifer Young, Crista Forest, Jim Flanagan, Barney Davey, and Elijah Shifrin already have, and I know EmptyEasel is a better website because of it.
